Our first presentation was about Canine dogs. They usually would have brought a dog in but sadly the dog and his handler got called away on a case. So instead came in the mascot. Constable Boland then showed us a video about how they train the dogs and what they can do. (Video shown below) It was kind of funny. Did you know that Bosco (the dog in the video) can get over a wall that is 8 feet tall!!? At the end of the video we had a chance to ask questions. Someone asked how much it costs to get and train a dog for the K9 unit. Do you know that it costs $75000 for one dog? Did you also know that K9 dogs are considered a part of the police force and also get sworn in like all the other officers?
For the next presentation a nurse came in from the health sciences center and talked about the bad things drugs can do to you and about how you can prevent it. She also told us about how you should always be safe and make the right choices. Some of the pictures she showed us were a bit gross but overall it was a great presentation.
The next presentation was about how life is in jail. A correctional officer came and told us about how in jail it doesn't matter what you did, you could end up in a cell with anyone. You could even be stuck in jail with a serial killer! It was really cool. Well, the presentation was, not the part about being in jail with a serial killer.
The last presentation was my favorite. Leroy Hibbert, a motivation speaker talked to us about racism and how it should be eliminated. It was a very powerful speech. He showed us a video about how we should all stand united against racism and bullying. You can see that video below too. When his speech was finished the band played again and the schools left one by one.
What did you think of the field trip?? For me I thought it was a V.I.D! (very interesting day)
