Today in class we got to watch the women’s hockey game between Canada and the U.S.A while we were working on Science. There was no score in the first period. Then in the second period, Meghan Duggan and Alex Carpenter scored the two goals for U.S. to take the lead into the third. In the third period we needed to score at least 2 goals to tie it and go into overtime to win. Here's how it all went down:
With 3:26 left of the third period we scored. Brianne Jenner scored and made it 2-1 still for U.S. We needed to score 1 more goal to tie it up within 3:26. Canada pulled their goalie and put their sixth attacker on the ice, but during that time the U.S shot the puck down and hit the post. With 54.6 seconds left of the third period, Marie-Philip Poulin SCORED and Canada and the U.S. were going into overtime. Marie-Philip Poulin tied it up and the score was now 2-2.
Overtime:
With 11:57 the U.S took a penalty. That could give Canada the win because if Canada scored we would have won Gold and it would be the 4th time winning Gold in a row for the Canadian Women's hockey team. Canada was passing back and forth and when there was 11:50 left of overtime someone finally decided to shoot and what do you know? They scored and it was official: Canada had just won the GOLD medal. Marie-Philip Poulin scored the overtime winner. What a night for Canada and Marie-Philip Poulin who scored both the tying and winning goal.
