Today we had track and field. It went all day long and was at TD water house. I was in triathlon. For the 400 metre run I came in 6th place and I did well in soft ball throw and standing long jump. My favourite events are 100 and 50 metre dashes and relay. It was a nice day for track and field. It was warm and sunny. When you are sitting in the stands all day though, it does sometimes get really hot! I had a lot of fun! There were a few things that I didn’t like though. It was really hard to hear when your event was called because the speakers made the lady’s voice echo. Also they would call your event but you would still have to sit in the middle of the field and wait another 20 minutes before you actually went. Altogether though, I had a great time! What event were you in? How did you do? What did you like and dislike about track and field this year? If you could make any event, what would it be? If you didn’t go to track and field, what did you do at school? Last week I went to Philadelphia, which is a place in USA known for it's cream cheese and cheese cake.
The ride was 10 hours long!(which includes a few stops.)It was me, My sister, my mom my dad and my grandpa and grandma. When we got there all of my relatives were very happy to see us! Most of the people there were related to my grandpa, he has 7 siblings! They were especially happy to see him since they had not seen him in a very long time. The day that we arrived was my grandpa's sister's son's 1 year wedding anniversary so we celebrated and had cake. On the second day we visited A LOT of relatives. We had breakfast at one place, Lunch at another and supper at another! We also went shopping at Franklin Mills and it was super cool. The next day was our last day so we had every one came for kind of a family reunion. We all had BBQ and we were playing badminton and volleyball it was a ton of fun. We left at like 5 AM and I think that I will remember this trip for a long time. What was your most memorable trip? We have been reading about social issues in our book clubs, and we had some great discussions about them in our Social Studies lessons. We all have social issues that we are passionate about and wish we could change in the world. What can we do to make a positive change in the world? Even the littlest action can make a difference. Here is an inspiring music video by Matthew West called "Do Something." What social issue are you passionate about? If you could do anything to make a positive change, what would it be? London is hosting the Memorial Cup! It one of the most known hockey trophies in the world. The teams in this year’s 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup are the Edmonton Oil kings, Guelph Storm, Val dour Foulours and of course, the hosting team, the London Knights. Fan Fest : Downtown London is where the action is! At Fan Fest there are many tents with different companies hosting free games for kids of all ages to enjoy. The Hockey Hall of Fame has a tent with NHL trophies such as the Stanley Cup. There are also OHL trophies and the socks that Corey Perry wore when he played for London. Scouts At the memorial cup there are NHL scouts watching to see who can help their team or to see who to pick in the draft. All the scouts wear black with a little black book. Where my seats are, the scouts are seated in front of me. The one scout that sits in front of me just keeps giving me food he says "do you want anything, a cookie?" He also gives us programs about each team. I wonder what’s next. The standings aren’t looking good for London, as they are in last with a score of 0-2. Who do you think will win why? Who is your favorite player on the Knights? By Ben I can’t wait to see the fireworks this Monday; it is going to be amazing! As you know Victoria Day is on Monday the 19th of May. Victoria Day is celebrated in honor of the birthdays of both Queen Victoria and the current monarch of Canada. Queen Victoria became Queen of the United Kingdom on June, 1837 following the death of her father and 3 uncles. Queen Victoria was born on May 24th, 1819. She was Queen of Great Britain for 63 years longer than any other British monarch. Victoria was married in 1840 to Prince Albert. She had 4 sons and 5 girls so 9 kids all together. She was Queen until her death on January 22nd, 1901. We celebrate Victoria Day with fireworks and sometimes parades. Victoria, British Colombia held the most notable parade for Victoria Day. I like Victoria Day because it marks the end of the long winter and it shows that summer is just around the corner. Victoria Day is very important to my family because a lot of my family members have birthdays close to Victoria Day so we all get together and celebrate the birthdays and also celebrate Victoria Day. Do you like Victoria Day and why? What do you do with your family on Victoria Day? Today my friend John and I did our prayer service on Racism and discrimination, we talked about how many people in the world get discriminated because of where they’re from and how they look like. I am not sure why people like to make fun of others because of where they’re from. There are many people in the world that have tried to stop Racism, like Martin Luther King. He was born on January 15 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States and he was assassinated April 4 1968 someone killed him for what he stood up for and that is putting an end to unfairness between the white and the black. Also Nelson Mandela who also tried to stop unfairness between cultures but he just recently passed away. I wish people wouldn’t discriminate others for what they believe, what they look like or where they’re from but unfortunately there are lots of people who do discriminate others, I cant imagine how much pain some people go through when they get discriminated. What do you think about racism? What will you do if you see somebody being offended by their culture? Have you ever seen somebody being hurt by racism? I have seen a lot of good movies like Star Wars. But I am not going to talk about the movie, I am going to talk about the director George Lucas. George Lucas is 69 years old now. He was born on May 14, 1944 in Modesto, California U.S.A. His wife was Marcia Lou Griffin and they had a child named Amanda Lucas until 1983 when they got divorced. Then he married Mellody Hobson. Their child was named Everest Hobson Lucas. He adopted Katie Lucas and Jett Lucas. His parents are Dorothy Ellinore Bomberger and George Walton Lucas Sr. He also directed: THX 1138, and American Graffiti. Hope you learned more about George Lucas. Who is your favorite director or film producer? What is your favorite movie? The history of baseball is full of colorful characters and one of the most colorful characters is Yogi Berra who was born on May 12, 1925. Yogi played for my favorite team, the New York Yankees, from 1946 to 1965 and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972. During the span of his entire career, Yogi was a catcher, outfielder and manager. Although Yogi Berra is widely regarded as one of the greatest catchers in baseball history, we remember him more for the way he butchered the English language. SOME QUOTES THAT YOGI BERRA ACTUALLY SAID (YOU COULDN’T MAKE THIS STUFF UP): Baseball is ninety percent mental and the other half is physical. If you don't know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else. A nickel ain't worth a dime anymore. Half the lies they tell about me aren't true. You can observe a lot by just watching. If people don't want to come out to the ball park, nobody's gonna stop 'em. I really didn’t say everything I said. You better cut the pizza in 4 pieces because I’m not hungry enough to eat 8. Always go to other people's funerals, otherwise they won't come to yours. It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future. Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded. The future ain't what it used to be. What do you think? Do you have any favorite characters in sports? On May 11 people all over the world celebrate a special day to thank their mothers. This day is called Mothers day. On mothers’ day, we thank our moms for being so nice and loving to us. We realize all the things they did for us and how grateful we should be. Different people show their thanks in different ways.
Some people may buy or make a present for their moms, but others may take their moms out for dinner at a restaurant or they may cook something special for the event. But entirely it doesn’t really matter what you give your mom on mothers’ day, the thing that really matters is that you are showing your appreciation for what they have done in your life. Also Mother’s Day is a time to meet up and celebrate together as a family. People may have a place to meet up and share their memories together and remember what their mom’s have done for them. We should also remember that mother Mary is our mother also and we should think about what she has done for us too. Do you like to celebrate mothers day? What do you do to remember what your mother has done for you? |
