Today we kick off our annual Thanksgiving food drive. We ask each classmate to rob your kitchen cupboards of canned goods and non perishable food items to donate to local food banks. Our food banks are important, they feed hungry families each day but the need is especially great around the holidays. Help us by sharing and giving what we can. We want to challenge our school to try to get the most amount of food from our class. Please bring in canned foods and non perishable food for those who really need it because we have a lot and some around the world have nothing. So please be thank full and bring in your food!

I can't wait for my parents and yours to meet Miss Tamasi! It will be at the Back to School BBQ. I've been to some barbecues before but not many. I hope it will be fun! I think all the money goes to help the school, which I think is great because it helps us to get educated in some way. This is important to a lot of people, including me. I also want to meet some new people, make more friends, and spend time with my old friends.
Are you hungry? If there's music are you gonna dance? And finally, what will you order to eat at the BBQ? See you there! Mia Tuesday September 23 2014 was the first day of AUTUMN. Yes, summer has gone and autumn has come in its place. No more sun burns or shorts and t-shirts. Now we get into different clothing because we are now in one of the colder seasons. So it is time to get ready for cold winds and much more colder days, because autumn has arrived.
Autumn is one of the 4 seasons of the year. It is the season that comes right after summer and right before winter. During autumn it is very cold. Autumn is always colder that summer and spring but is definitely warmer than winter. In winter it snows but in autumn the leaves change colour. Some of those colours would be: red, orange, brown, gold, and yellow. The leaves also fall off the trees. And as everyone knows that means… LEAF PILES!!! As I already mentioned autumn is very cold. So that also means different clothing. Such as: long sleeves, longer pants (like jeans), and also large cozy sweaters. We also start using our jackets and coats. Unlike the summer when we are wearing t-shirts, shorts, and tank tops. Many people like this season because of the colour the leaves and because during autumn we celebrate two popular events, Thanksgiving and Halloween. People have different opinions about their favorite seasons. I personally like autumn the best because during that season it is my birthday. Do you like autumn? What is your favorite season? Why do you like it so much? Hi, my name is Nicholas and I am new to JV school. I think this school is very clean and friendly, just like my old school. Here are some differences and similarities I've noticed between each school.

Thank you for reading my blog post. Hope you have a great day!
Today Constable B. came into our classroom to get us started on our V.I.P. program for the year. The V.I.P. program is only for Grade 6 students. Throughout the year, Constable B. will come into our class and talk with us about important topics.
Today we talked about values, and by values, I mean personal qualities that have great meaning to yourself, even if it means nothing to other people. Some of these values could be responsibility, trustworthiness, respect, kindness, etc. The stronger our values, the better we will be able to make good decisions in our life. Constable B. told us a story about this girl and how her car broke down on the highway in the middle of a snow storm. She broke into a house to stay warm. I think she told us this story to show us that even though breaking into a house is wrong, in this story, the girl didn't intend to do anything wrong. She was just trying to protect herself from freezing to death. I think it's good to learn about V.I.P. because it gives us good life lessons and how we should act when we get older. In the V.I.P. program we will be talking about drugs and drinking too. Why shouldn't we take drugs? What's the point of drugs? Just think about how healthy will our bodies be if we don't smoke and take drugs. Are you looking forward to the V.I.P. program this year?
Today our school did an event called cross country. This is something where we run a long distance and compete with other schools. Today was a great day for our school with my brother Reid finishing 1st and also many others from our school finishing 1st like Jacob C and Erica P. Some other shout outs to Ashley D coming 2nd, Jacob M coming 4th and Jake M coming 5th. I think our school did the best! I'll give you an example: For my race our school had placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th. I was the one who came 8th.
On the down side it was kind of wet and there were puddles everywhere! I think that slowed some people down because they were having to move sideways or to a completely different place. This sure slowed me down! The good thing is this was only a practice run, so all we can do is get better and better. Then we could do even better at the next meet! How did you do in your run? Are you looking forward to the next meet? Two days ago the grade sixes were invited to watch the grade 7 and 8 student parliament speeches for the very first time. I thought the speeches were very persuasive, a few were funny, and they were overall amazing. I would like to congratulate the people who were elected: (the positions are: P.M, deputy P.M, spirit, minister of outreach, and minister of public relations) Rachael B., Matthew, Steven, Clara, Lucas, Ben K., Michael D., Michael C., and Melanie. Sorry to the people who I didn’t list or the people’s names I miss spelt.
Now that we have chosen a new student parliament I can’t wait to see what fund raisers they come up with or the spirit days we have. In fact there we some good ideas that were listed in the speeches like: nerd day (dress up like Ben’s brother), neon day, and moustache day, and more. I think that this will be a great year and I can’t wait to vote or even run next year! What were your thoughts on the speeches? What do you think we will have in store for this year? This is Jacob signing out. Peace! We have begun to learn about the human body in our Science class. Our bodies are pretty amazing! We've come to learn some pretty interesting facts about the human body. For example, did you know that there are somewhere around 100 trillion cells in the human body? Did you also know that facial hair grows faster than any other hair on the body?
What interesting facts about the human body can you share? Throughout our unit we'll be learning more about the different systems in the body. So today we played a neat little online game to help us understand the different parts of some systems a little bit better. Do you think you know about the human body? Try playing the game we played today, and see how well you do. (By the way, the character in the game sounds an awful lot like Arnold Schwarzenegger!) Today we began using Mathletics in our math class. If you've never used Mathletics before, you definitely have to check it out! Mathletics is a fun, interactive program that helps kids (and adults) practice their math skills. You can play against other people, or practice skills that are directly related to what you're doing in math class. You can earn points toward certificates, and credits to use in the avatar store. Best of all, you can watch your math skills improve in a fun way! We'll be using Mathletics until January, as part of our homework program. Miss Tamasi will be assigning tasks each night for the students to complete. The best thing about the assigned tasks is that there is instant feedback and you will know right away if you are right or wrong. Having trouble? Click on the question mark for a quick tutorial about how to work through the question. Too easy for you? Mathletics automatically adjusts itself to your level and the questions will become increasingly more difficult. In addition to the assigned curriculum activities, there is a Live component, where you can play against other people from anywhere in the world. If you challenge another person, you will get 60 seconds to try to answer as many questions correctly as you possibly can. You can even choose your level from 1 - 10. Teachers like Mathletics because it helps to get students excited about math, and they can see their students' confidence build in mental math calculations. Parents like it because they can keep track of their child's progress if they register in the parent centre. Students love it because it's a much more enjoyable way to complete math homework each night, rather than bringing home a heavy textbook or a bunch of worksheets. Plus, it's fun to challenge other "Mathletes" from around the world. What do you love about Mathletics? |
