On Tuesday, February 2, 2016, our class went on a field trip to Racing Against Drugs which was hosted at RMC. It was so fun there! There were different stations, and at each station we learned about things that will help us to make good decisions for our lives. We have been learning about the story of Jesus' birth as told through the Gospel, and we have been trying to imagine what it was like for Mary and Joseph. We are learning what it means to be empathetic, or to show empathy toward another person. Showing empathy means to be able to understand and share the feelings of another person. Showing empathy is one way that we can show love to another person.
Click the title of this post or the "read more" to see two videos we watched to help us try to empathize with Mary and Joseph. On Thursday, December 11, our class is leading our school Advent mass. We will be responsible for all the readings, responses, intentions, offertory gifts, and songs. Below are the lyrics to the offertory song we will be singing and the audio file for you to practice to. Thank you for responding to the call to lead our school community at our next mass! Lead Me, Lord
1. Blessed are the poor in spirit, longing for their Lord, for God’s coming kingdom shall be theirs. Blessed are the sorrowing, for they shall be consoled, and the meek shall come to rule the world. Refrain Lead me, Lord, lead me, Lord, by the light of truth to seek and to find the narrow way. Be my way; be my truth; be my life, my Lord, and lead me, Lord, today. 2. Blessed are the merciful, for mercy shall be theirs, and the pure in heart shall see their God. Blest are they whose hunger only holiness can fill, for I say they shall be satisfied. We are learning about our Canadian government, and sometimes it can become confusing as to what level of government is responsible for each service. Check out this video to help you keep it all straight. **Warning! This tune will get stuck in your head! When we have something special coming up, like a big party, or a family vacation, or whenever we are awaiting visitors, we go through preparation. We are also very excited as we anticipate what's coming ahead. We have just entered into the season of Advent, which is a time of waiting for the birth of our Lord. What does your family do to prepare during this special season? Watch the video below, and then write about how your family prepares during Advent in the comment section. You can discuss with your family and have them help you with your reflection. Your reflection should be at least a paragraph. We have been talking a lot in our Family Life lessons about how we are ALL created and loved by God. We have been taking part in reflective activities to explore our individuality and uniqueness, and talking about ways that we can show love toward others. Mrs. Hird, our school Principal, also came in to talk to us about different forms of bullying, and about how the way we treat each other on a daily basis can make a huge difference in someone's life, either positive or negative. Let's make sure we create a positive difference in someone's life. Let's all take the pledge to end bullying. Take a look at the video below about how words matter. Then, visit the pledge page, read the pledge and if you agree, sign your name. But remember: signing a pledge is only symbolic. You've got to walk the walk, and talk the talk. In other words, your everyday words and actions towards others will be the only way to really put an end toward bullying. Let's live through Jesus' example and treat everyone the way He would. Take the pledge HERE.
We have an awesome Canada's Women's soccer team. Some of the players are Erin McLeod, who is goalkeeper, Lauren Sesselman, who is a defender, Kaylyn Kyle, a midfielder, and of course, Christine Sinclaire, a forward. Sadly, the USA won the 2015 World Cup 5-2 vs Japan. The USA is my favourite team besides Canada, and my favourite player on team USA is Hope Solo. Make sure you watch the next FIFA World cup. I know for sure I'll be watching.
I wonder what your favourite team is and who your favourite player is. This year in hockey, my coach has taught me about the importance of eating healthy. He told our team at the beginning of the year so then we had to stay fit and get ready for the next workout. I am supposed to drink chocolate milk after my hockey practices. I am also supposed to eat stuff like honey, rice, potatoes, bread, and other foods with lots of carbohydrates. Before hockey, I am supposed to eat things like fruit, beans, lentils, baked potatoes, corn, pancakes and waffles, and a lot more stuff. We are also supposed to drink 1 big cup of water before our hockey games to keep us hydrated.
