We have just entered into the season of Advent, which is a time of waiting for the birth of our Lord. What does your family do to prepare during this special season? Watch the video below, and then write about how your family prepares during Advent in the comment section. You can discuss with your family and have them help you with your reflection. Your reflection should be at least a paragraph.
When we have something special coming up, like a big party, or a family vacation, or whenever we are awaiting visitors, we go through preparation. We are also very excited as we anticipate what's coming ahead. We have just entered into the season of Advent, which is a time of waiting for the birth of our Lord. What does your family do to prepare during this special season? Watch the video below, and then write about how your family prepares during Advent in the comment section. We have been talking a lot in our Family Life lessons about how we are ALL created and loved by God. We have been taking part in reflective activities to explore our individuality and uniqueness, and talking about ways that we can show love toward others. Mrs. Hird, our school Principal, also came in to talk to us about different forms of bullying, and about how the way we treat each other on a daily basis can make a huge difference in someone's life, either positive or negative. Let's make sure we create a positive difference in someone's life. Let's all take the pledge to end bullying. Take a look at the video below about how words matter. Then, visit the pledge page, read the pledge and if you agree, sign your name. But remember: signing a pledge is only symbolic. You've got to walk the walk, and talk the talk. In other words, your everyday words and actions towards others will be the only way to really put an end toward bullying. Let's live through Jesus' example and treat everyone the way He would. Take the pledge HERE.
We have an awesome Canada's Women's soccer team. Some of the players are Erin McLeod, who is goalkeeper, Lauren Sesselman, who is a defender, Kaylyn Kyle, a midfielder, and of course, Christine Sinclaire, a forward. Sadly, the USA won the 2015 World Cup 5-2 vs Japan. The USA is my favourite team besides Canada, and my favourite player on team USA is Hope Solo. Make sure you watch the next FIFA World cup. I know for sure I'll be watching.
I wonder what your favourite team is and who your favourite player is. This year in hockey, my coach has taught me about the importance of eating healthy. He told our team at the beginning of the year so then we had to stay fit and get ready for the next workout. I am supposed to drink chocolate milk after my hockey practices. I am also supposed to eat stuff like honey, rice, potatoes, bread, and other foods with lots of carbohydrates. Before hockey, I am supposed to eat things like fruit, beans, lentils, baked potatoes, corn, pancakes and waffles, and a lot more stuff. We are also supposed to drink 1 big cup of water before our hockey games to keep us hydrated.
Okay so obviously I'm doing my post on HARRY POTTER! Harry Potter is about a young boy who lives with his unfair aunt and uncle (Petunia and Vernon Dursley) and then goes to a magical school where he meets his best friends Herimoine and Ron, his enemy Draco Malfoy and the headmaster Dumbledore. He also hears about Lord Voldemort and his parents Lily and James Potter. It's a really good series and if you have time you should really read it. Oh! I almost forgot. Harry also gets sorted. Getting sorted is when a magical speaking hat (sounds kind of weird I know) decides which house you should be in based on your personality. Your house decides who you hang out with and who your enemies are. There's Gryffindors, who are brave, Ravenclaws who are smart, Hufflepuffs who are loyal, and Slytherins who are cunning (Harry is a Gryffindor) I'm a Hufflepuff! Which house would you be in? Do you know what a "pittance" is? A pittance refers to something very small, or insignificant. Terry Kelly, a musician from Nova Scotia wrote a song called "A Pittance of Time" in response to his outrage over some shoppers who would not stop even for 2 minutes of silence on Remembrance Day back in 1999. His video shows us how a simple act of stopping for 2 minutes to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers who fought for peace and freedom can be so meaningful. 2 minutes is really just a "pittance" of time, but it means so much! This November 11, let us all take a moment to remember the huge sacrifice so many people gave in order to secure the freedom and peace our country enjoys today. Canada truly is the land of the free and it is thanks to our veterans and all of their fallen comrades! Click HERE to learn more behind Terry Kelly's song. In the meantime, enjoy the video below. Small living environments are called habitats. However, when we widen our view and look at larger environments on a global scale, we are talking about biomes. We had the chance to work in small groups to become experts about one particular biome. We built models of our biomes, and then had a chance to teach other classmates about what we learned.
Click on the title of this post or the "read more" link to see our progress, and then to read our fact sheets about the biomes we studied. |
